Sisters Leah and Michelle Svensson talked about Bobby Crimo, the perpetrator behind the Fourth of July mass shooting incident in Illinois, on the July 8 episode of their Brighteon.TV program “Headline News: The Resistance Chicks.”
The shooting occurred at the Highland Park suburb located north of Chicago, during the Fourth of July festivities there. Crimo, 21, had a long, documented history of strange and very threatening behavior. He lived up to what everyone who knew him thought he might someday do: perpetrate a mass shooting.
Crimo reportedly dressed up in women’s clothes and scaled a fire escape ladder up the roof of a local business, before opening fire at the parade below.
Highland Park resident Miles Zaremski told the Chicago Sun-Times that he counted more than 20 shots in rapid succession. “It couldn’t have been just a handgun or a shotgun,” he said.
Zaremski also recounted seeing “people in that area that got shot,” including a woman covered with blood.
Leah described the 21-year-old amateur rapper as “a very disturbed young man” and “the product of … modern, narcissistic media [and] entertainment culture.”
“He went and shot a whole crowd of people at a parade. He killed seven people [and] injured 30. I’m not going to say necessarily that he was crazy, because that kind of gives the connotation that you’re born a certain way.”
Like many other mass shooters, Crimo had been an alienated young man who had a few run-ins with law enforcement prior to the mass shooting.
Back in April 2019, an individual contacted the Highland Park Police Department after learning that Crimo attempted suicide. In September of the same year, a family member told law enforcement that he threatened to kill everyone and that he had a collection of knives.
However, the Resistance Chicks lamented that even though Crimo’s father was aware of his son’s suicide and mass murder attempts, he still helped his disturbed child purchase firearms. (Study: Concealed carry firearms owners have a 94% success rate stopping potential mass shooters.)
Police peacefully arrested Crimo in Lake Forest, Illinois more than eight hours after the mass shooting. A police officer spotted him and followed him on a short chase.
Christopher Covelli, deputy chief of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, said Crimo had been very discreet and very difficult to see while committing the crime. He also called the crime “very random” but very intentional. According to Covelli, law enforcement recovered the high-powered rifle Crimo used in the mass shooting.
Individuals injured in the 21-year-old’s attack were taken to the Highland Park, Lake Forest and Evanston hospitals, with the vast majority treated for gunshot wounds. Others received treatment for injuries sustained amid the chaos, after Crimo fired.
According to Highland Park Hospital’s Dr. Brigham Temple, 25 of the 26 patients who received treatment were gunshot victims. Of this number, 19 were treated and sent home. Temple added that the gunshot victims ranged from as young as eight to as old as 85, with children comprising “about four or five.”
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, meanwhile, asked for prayers for the victims of the shooting.
“There are no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children celebrating a holiday with their community. There are no words for the kind of evil that robs our neighbors of their hopes, their dreams, their futures,” he said. “There are no words I can offer to lift the pain of those they leave behind.”
